[Labor Notes] Labor and Disability Justice: Towards Solidarity!
RSVP for the Zoom link
Calling all disabled workers and labor organizers interested in disability justice, and disability justice activists interested in worker organizing!
Disabled and chronically ill workers, especially those who are people of color, have always organized for justice on the job. Join PeoplesHub and Labor Notes for a popular education-style circle that will highlight some of this work, as well as discuss opportunities and challenges around building solidarity between the disability justice and labor movements. The moderators, Azza Altiraifi and Deborah Rosenstein, will frame the space with questions and reflections for small- and full-group discussion.
You’ll leave with:
A better understanding of the opportunities and challenges that arise when working towards worker/labor & disability justice.
A commitment to organizing in ways that integrate disability justice into worker/labor campaigns & a greater awareness around worker/labor issues within disability justice efforts.
Concrete examples of worker/labor & disability justice solidarity in action.
Opportunities to network and collaborate in the future with other disabled workers and organizers at this intersection.
Spanish/English interpretation provided. Other languages available upon request (with notice). Access requests, including interpretation and captioners, can be made during registration or by emailing Dustin Gibson at dustin@peopleshub.org.

Join Labor Notes for an online workshop for shop stewards where we'll follow a grievance from beginning to end and discuss what went right and what went wrong. We will cover the investigation, the initial hearing, and more.

Labor Notes: Stewards Workshop - Just Cause
RSVP for the Zoom link
This workshop has limited capacity. Please only register if you are a union steward or a union officer who works with stewards. Registration is $10, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Just cause is the keystone of the union contract, protecting members from unwarranted and excessive discipline. But many of its most important secrets have been restricted to arbitrators and labor professionals.
Join Labor Notes for an online workshop for shop stewards on just cause, where we'll talk about what it is, what it isn't, and how stewards can use it to vigorously enforce the rights of members.
The workshop will be led by veteran labor attorney Bob Schwartz, who is the author of the popular resource: "Just Cause: A Union Guide to Winning Discipline Cases". The workshop will include a presentation on Just Cause, followed by discussion and practice based on real-world scenarios.
If you have any questions or problems signing up, email: joe@labornotes.org.
Labor Notes: What To Do When Your Union Breaks Your Heart
RSVP for the Zoom link
If you’re a union member, unfortunately the chances are good that you’ve had, or will have, your heart broken at least once by one of your own leaders. Whether you tried to get involved and there was nowhere to go, or the members got sold out, or leaders want to keep the union as their exclusive club, it can feel pretty harsh. In this workshop, we’ll talk about how to recommit to your union and change the culture into one where leaders respect and serve the members.
This monthly Labor Notes workshop is based on this article and will be led by Ellen David Friedman.
