Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is a seven-member body that is responsible for implementing decisions of Worcester DSA’s membership and that meets weekly to administer the organization between General Meetings. Each officer on the Steering Committee also has a portfolio of responsibilities outlined in our bylaws. Officers are elected each December at our chapter’s Local Convention and serve a one-year term that starts on January 1.

Labor Committee

Many DSA members are active, committed members of trade unions, and many of us who aren't are organizing where we work to form one! We coordinate solidarity actions, sending members to walk active picket lines and raising money to support striking workers; we share our own experiences and help one another strategize for our own workplace organizing; and we discuss how we can work to build our existing unions into strong, organized shops prepared to fight for what we deserve.

Political Committee

The Political Committee reaches out into our communities in Central Mass to find where different parts of the working class are already self-organized. Being an organization by and for the working class means understanding the struggles experienced by workers of different races, genders, national origin, and economic backgrounds; organizing alongside them as peers; and uniting our social struggles in the fight for an end to the system that maintains them.

Political Education Committee

Our chapter’s Political Education Committee runs discussion groups on books, articles, films, presentations created by chapter members, and more – many of these events are open to the public, and all of them contribute to our understanding of how the world works, and how the working class can change it.

Engagement Committee

Social gatherings, member-to-member outreach, and making sure the chapter is active across every part of Central Mass is the job of the Engagement Committee.

Tenant Committee

Just as workers on the job can organize to win improvements from the boss, tenants can organize to win improvements from their landlord! Our Tenant Committee helps members organize with their neighbors, building toward tenant unions and offering tools and resources to support tenants in their struggle.

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee creates content for the chapter's social media, its website, and other platforms. It puts together designs for chapter merchandise, helps members in making public statements on behalf of the organization, and looks for every opportunity to spread our political message across Central Mass and beyond!

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee onboards new members and meets with prospective members to talk about DSA and what our chapter does in Central Mass. We also periodically host "DSA 101" presentations to give anyone who lives, works, or studies in the area the chance to hear an overview: what we stand for, how DSA works, and why working-class people should join us.

Democracy Committee

The Democracy Committee plans general meetings where members of the chapter can propose, deliberate on, and amend their ideas for what our chapter should do and how we should do it. It also helps members understand their rights as members, from parliamentary rules to how proposals can be written and submitted.

Program and Electoral Committees

These two committees work in tandem: where the Program Committee generates messaging for specific campaigns the chapter is running (be that a candidate for public office or a ballot initiative), the Electoral Committee takes up the boots-on-the-ground work of talking to working-class voters.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee drafts the chapter's annual budget, which members can amend and ultimately vote on to determine how we spend dues money. It manages the chapter's funds on hand, and reaches out to members whose dues are about to expire.
