ABCs of Socialism reading group [Session 2]

RSVP for the Zoom link

Isn’t socialism just when the government does stuff? Isn’t capitalism compatible with freedom and democracy? Doesn’t socialism always end in dictatorship? Won’t a socialist society be boring? Join Worcester DSA’s reading group to discuss these questions and more.

We will discuss the key theoretical and practical takeaways from Jacobin’s The ABCs of Socialism. We will discuss points of agreement and disagreement with these ideas and whether they go far enough. In addition, we will discuss strategies for talking about these concepts with friends and co-workers who may not yet be socialists.

The reading group will meet on Zoom for four sessions:

  • Saturday, August 20, 1-2:30pm ET to discuss pages 10-35

  • Saturday, September 10, 1-2:30pm ET to discuss pages 36-69

  • Saturday, September 17, 1-2:30pm ET to discuss pages 70-103

  • Saturday, September 24, 1-2:30pm ET to discuss pages 104-139

Sign up today and then download the free PDF from Jacobin. Reading and note taking guides will be emailed to participants.
