The Socialist Program: Lessons and Prospects

RSVP to get the Zoom link emailed to you

Join DSA’s National Political Education Committee for a panel discussion with Bhaskar Sunkara, Mike Macnair, Renee Paradis, and Seth Ackerman on the prospects and lessons of the socialist program. With the recent drafting and adoption of DSA’s Political Platform, this event aims to encourage debate on our organization’s views on and strategic conceptions of the political platform/program. In accordance with the length and diversity of the history of the international worker’s movement, different perspectives of the nature and purpose of the political program have come about. Post-1991, what lessons, pros, cons, and principles can and should we extract from this rich history of the political program and strategy? How should democratic socialists view a program?

For the first 45-60 minutes, following a brief introduction, our panelists will speak for 15-20 minutes each about their views on the political program/platform. Subsequently, panelists will be encouraged to respond to each other and compare and contrast their views for a maximum of 30 minutes. Finally, a question and answer session will be opened to the audience where written questions can be submitted for the moderators to read aloud and for panelists to answer.
